Spy Shots: Face of next BMW M3 caught while testing

BMW M3 spy shots - hot weather testing

Behold our first clear glimpse at the 2014 BMW M3. Photographers spotted the high performance sedan undergoing hot-weather testing in Death Valley. Engineers peeled back a slab of heavy nose cladding for the first time, revealing the machine's menacing lower valance and headlamps. The design features sizable air intakes down low, and it looks as if a new hood is part of the recipe as well. If these photos are any indication, the M3 will continue to boast a prominent power bulge for the next model year.

Massive drilled rotors and similarly potent-looking calipers are part of the song and dance, which is a good thing. BMW has made it clear the 2014 M3 will bow with a forced induction inline six in place of the current model's fire-breathing high-rev V8. Even so, we don't expect to see a reduction in power or performance.

David Clarkson close to signing for Bristol Rovers

DAVID Clarkson is expected to become a Bristol Rovers player in the next few days.
Former Bristol City striker Clarkson, 26, has been in negotiations with the club since joining up with Rovers for training a fortnight ago and manager Mark McGhee yesterday confirmed yesterday that a deal was "just about done".
The signing will represent a massive coup for McGhee after persuading Clarkson to drop down from the Championship to become part of Rovers bid to win promotion back to League One in the coming season. "We're just about there with David now," said McGhee. "It is a good signing for us because he is a player that sporadically showed good quality at Championship level.
"When he left Scotland to come down to Bristol City, I thought he would do brilliantly. It didn't quite work out like that for him, but he still did OK. I think he should have done better and is certainly a better player than he showed at Bristol City.
"I understand his game and I know what he does best.
"He's best when he's running the channels and chasing defenders down, but I don't think we saw enough of that at Bristol City.
"He is certainly a player with more than enough ability to excel at this level and I would expect Clarkson (pictured) to be a stand-out player for us in this division."
McGhee, meanwhile, is hoping to secure at least one more signing – believed to be a central defender – before the end of the weekend, but is unlikely to field any new faces at Yeovil tomorrow.
"We're very close and hope to secure a few players very soon. It's all going to schedule. I've always maintained that the recruitment of players this summer would go all the way to the end of August in some cases. That's the nature of the game at the moment."
The manager will also get another chance to assess German triallist Fabian Broghammer at Huish Park, but hinted that his future at the Memorial Stadium could be dependent on the outcome of on-going speculation surrounding Mustapha Carayol.
The highly-rated wideman has been targeted by Championship club Middlesbrough throughout the summer and McGhee admitted: "There is still a bit of uncertainty about Muzzy.
"What is certain is that Muzzy is a Bristol Rovers player until someone comes in with an appropriate bid.
We know how Muzzy feels and to be fair his attitude has been first-class. It doesn't affect what we are doing in the transfer market in any way. We don't need money from the sale of Muzzy to do what we need to do.
"The important thing to state is that if Muzzy goes it will be because he wants to and not because we have to sell him."
On Broghammer, McGhee added: "We've been very encouraged by what we've seen of him and he could possibly be a replacement for Muzzy.
"I'm not sure we can have both of them on the books, although we'd certainly like to because Fabian's got good pace and an ability to get at people.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how he performs against higher-league opposition in the shape of Yeovil on Saturday."
Defender Adam Virgo expects to feature at Huish Park after being given the go-ahead to play what would be a third game inside a week following a nine-month injury lay-off.
Jim Paterson is also expected to return after missing the last two matches with a head wound, which required 17 stitches following a collision with goalkeeper Conor Gough in training last week.

Connected Living Room Homes to Pass TV, PC Homes by 2014, Study

As TV advertising dollars flatten out in both the United States and Western Europe, broadcasters will need to find growth in IP-based opportunities especially those in connected TVs, says Sorosh Tavakoli, Founder and CEO of ad platform Videoplaza in an interview with Beet.TV.Connected living room homes and IP devices will surpass the number of TV and PC homes by 2014, according to a report Videoplaza commissioned that was conducted by research firm IHS Screen Digest. The study found that at the end of 2011, there were about 124 million active connected living room devices across North America and Western Europe, including TVs, gaming consoles, and set-top boxes, compared to 245 million PCs and 305 million TV homes. By the end of 2014, the number of connected living room homes will surpass the number of PC and TV homes, Videoplaza says in its report."The number of devices is the first indication of how consumers are changing their behavior," Tavakoli tells Beet.TV in this video interview. "You can expect audiences to shift from consuming video from a broadcast model to an IP-delivered model."Broadcasters need to develop strategies for these changes, encompassing content, devices, distribution and technology, he adds. For more details on how to approach these changes in the marketplace, check out the interview. To download the VideoPlaza report for free, visit the company's Web site.
