Friendswood Historical Society honors Quaker roots

The markers will be placed outside notable sites of Quaker settlement between the first and ninth blocks of FM 518, and will include a photo and a brief narrative describing the history of the site. The other markers will be placed in front of the town's first church and school, first family home, first business, first post office, first fig-preserving plant and first fig orchard, though at the time of settlement, the orchards lined the entire street. Rather than hold a fundraising event, historical society members sent out personal appeals to people in the community, and saw a quick response in return.
